Living in the embrace of forests - A story from Quang Tri
Forests are vital to the lives of people in Chenh Venh and Ho villages, near the Viet Nam–Laos border in Quang Tri Province, central Viet Nam. The Van Kieu ethnic minority has lived in these forests for decades. Chenh Venh belongs to the Huong Phung commune, and Ho village is part of the Huong Son commune.
In November 2021, 1,561 hectares of these forests became Viet Nam’s first smallholder group to receive FSC® certification for community natural forests. Additionally, three bamboo species are certified for sustainable harvesting and product manufacturing, while harvesting other timber species is strictly forbidden.
