Dr Suresh Gairola joins FSC India as Country Director
Dr Suresh Gairola joined FSC Regional Office Asia Pacific on 01 July 2021. He provides together with the Regional Director Asia Pacific vision and leadership to FSC India. Dr Gairola will drive the promotion and development of the FSC systems in the country and ensure its presence, acceptance, and reputation in India’s forestry sector.
Dr Gairola has a vast experience of 38 years in forest management, public policy, environmental law, forestry research and administration. A former Indian Forest Service officer, he has worked on important assignments with the Governments of India and Maharashtra. As Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, he was the technical advisor to the State Government on forestry matters. During his career, he has functioned in important positions of Director General, Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education; Additional Director General (Wildlife) with Government of India; Managing Director of Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra; Chief Conservator of Forests and Divisional Forest Officer.
He was an alumnus of Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore and National Law School of India University Bangalore. He earned his doctorate in forest management. He has been on the Boards of Wildlife Institute of India, National Institute of Himalayan Environment and Indian Institute of Forest Management. He was India Country Representative in the International Council of International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and is presently Chairman, Research Advisory and Monitoring Committee of Zoological Survey of India.
