Opened by Rulita Wijayaningdyah, FSC International’s Chairperson, the final public consultation meeting was concluded at Jakarta on 10 December 2018, attracted more than 60 participants to come.
Indonesia is a country composed of 16,000 islands. Therefore, each region can have its own environmental challenges and forest typology. To ensure the local relevance of the NFSS Indonesia in development, the consultation roadshows are instrumental to gain input from different stakeholders from different forest typology representation: those in Yogyakarta/Central Java region can represent the community/smallholder forest typology, while the ones in Riau region can represent plantation forest typology. The stakeholders in the Kalimantan region and Papua region can represent natural forest typology.
The public consultation meeting in Jakarta, which marked the closing of this roadshow exercise, aimed to provide final solicitation to the stakeholders. Many forest concessionaires’ headquarters and decision makers in forestry-based in the city.
“Overall, the consultation roadshow is very well received,” said Hartono Prabowo, National Representative, FSC Indonesia. “The face-to-face meetings provide a great platform where stakeholders from different sectors can have facilitated discussions to break down the complex matters, therefore the meetings also greatly complements the online consultation platform, where participants can send their follow-up feedback afterwards.”
The online consultation will continue until 25 January 2019.
