On 11 November 2025, FSC APAC hosted a full-day workshop in Semarang, Indonesia, to help businesses navigate the EU Deforestation-free Regulation (EUDR), which significantly impacts global supply chains, especially in the pulp and paper industry. Over 90 participants attended, including manufacturers (68%), traders (8%), and forest managers (7%), along with consultants and certification bodies.

Given Indonesia's classification as a Standard Risk country, companies face stricter due diligence requirements. In this context, participants actively engaged in discussions, expressing concerns about maintaining competitiveness compared to other low-risk countries and business relationships with EU buyers.

Key challenges include collecting required information along the complicated supply chains and geolocation data down to specific plots of land, as well as the potential uncertainties involved in integrating information with the National Dashboard.

Risk Assessment (RA) is mandatory when sourcing from Standard Risk countries, including Indonesia. Participants appreciated the use of the FSC Simplified RA template for sourcing FSC 100% or natural rubber, which eases their due diligence burden. They also found the updated Country National Risk Assessment (CNRA) beneficial in meeting RA requirements when sourcing controlled wood or FSC Mix materials.

Among the various FSC solutions, Indonesia companies are showing interest to consider FSC Regulatory Module, but follow-up discussion is needed to help them navigate the required due diligence system. Overall, participants showed great eagerness to stay informed through FSC as they prepare for the EUDR.
