To amplify the voice of furniture industry in China on its continued sustainable management and to call for responsible sourcing of timber especially from tropical areas, FSC China has launched Green Furniture for Sustainable Forest Initiative, associating 1st batch of 11 leading companies in the industry. A consensus has been reached that companies involved will actively promote FSC certification of their upstream suppliers and give priority to FSC-certified raw materials during procurement, forecasting a rise in demand for FSC-certified materials. Companies that are not FSC-certified will complete FSC certification process in 2 years, providing Chinese and international markets with more sustainable and reliable products made in China.
Starting from October 2023, FSC China has kicked off its negotiation with the initiators over the expected objectives of the Initiative. The 11 initiators, among which half are public listed, cover various sectors in the supply chain from wood panel to veneer, from bamboo products to floor, and from customization to children furniture. Take, for example, Suofeiya Home Collection Co. Ltd. (SCS-COC-007522), which is beyond doubt among the top 3 customized furniture enterprises in China. In near future, FSC China and all initiators will develop joint projects, establish FSC-certified vendor lists, support each other in capacity building, training and workshops, and forge collaborations on marketing campaigns.
