After many years of dedicated service, Eishi Maezawa, Executive Director of FSC Japan, has decided to retire officially at the end of December. Eishi has been instrumental in introducing FSC to Japan since 1996, and his passion and tenacious commitment have contributed significantly to FSC's growth in the region.

Eishi's decision to retire reflects his commitment to prioritizing his health and well-being, and we wholeheartedly support his choice. His last day at FSC Japan was October 12. During this transition period, Chisato Mishiba will assume the role of Acting Executive Director.

We recognise that Eishi's departure leaves big shoes to fill. He has been a driving force behind our efforts to promote responsible forest management in Japan. His wisdom and experience have been invaluable, and we are working diligently to identify an appropriate successor who can carry forward his legacy.

Eishi Maezawa shared, "I started introducing FSC in Japan in 1996. It was a bit of a struggle to find a way to get the word out about FSC, but I kept moving anyway. I think there are various stages in promoting FSC. It will be important to have a strategy that carefully assesses what stage each country and/or region is at."

As Eishi looks forward to his retirement, he plans to relocate to East Africa, hoping to be closer to the field and actively engage in conservation activities.

We have every assurance that FSC Japan will maintain its seamless operations and unwavering commitment to our mission. We invite you to join us in expressing your gratitude to Eishi Maezawa for his outstanding contributions to FSC Japan throughout the years.
