The FSC Forest Stewardship Standard (FSS) for Smallholders in India has been released on the sidelines of Regional Members Meeting held in Bangkok during 26-27 July 2022.
This standard is for the use in plantations by smallholders in India (Management Units smaller than 20 ha). The standard has been adapted from Regional Forest Stewardship Standard with relevance to the specific circumstances of smallholders in India. Written in a simple language, it provides realistic and achievable indicators. This document is a result of a persistent need to have simplified standard for smallholders engaged in agroforestry, farm forestry, block plantations etc., the sector which caters to the bulk of wood supply in India. The national adaptation for India has been developed and published to pilot test the indicators over next five years.
The standard becomes effective on 01 October 2022.
