Piyathip Eawpanich
FSC Individual Member
Thailand, Environmental South

1. What inspired you to become an FSC member, and how does this align with your personal or professional values?

I joined FSC because I truly believe in what it stands for. Its long history and strong reputation convinced me that real, sustainable forest management is within reach and just theory. The logging ban in Thailand from the early ‘90s fired me up to see how these ideas actually work in the real world.

2. Can you share a moment when you saw FSC’s impact firsthand—economically, socially, or environmentally?

Absolutely. I’ll never forget seeing businesses in my own country step up to get certified, not just to grow their companies, but to help protect their hometowns and the people around them. We always talk about balancing the environment with business, but FSC makes that more than just talk. It puts ecology at the center of big decisions.

"I was astonished when I saw companies here push for FSC certification—not just for themselves, but for their communities and neighborhoods too."

3. What is one change or improvement you hope to drive through your FSC membership in the next year?

I want to make the Thailand FSC country office stronger and more active. A real goal for me is building a long-term partnership between FSC Thailand and the Forestry Alumni Society, so we can do more, together, for our forests and our people.

4. How has FSC membership enabled you to make a difference in your field or community? Can you give an example?

I get first-hand updates and a real seat at the table—I can propose motions and vote at the General Assembly. Then, I bring what I learn right back to the forestry community here, so we can all benefit and grow together.

5. In your sector, what unique challenges does FSC help address, and how have you seen progress?

The Smallholder Standard pilot in Thailand changed things for our farmers. It cracked open access to FSC certification so more small farmers could get on board. Doors are opening for people who never had this chance before.

6. Looking back, what accomplishment as an FSC member are you most proud of, and what made it possible?

It allows me linking people, sharing ideas, and building opportunities that bring sustainable forestry to life in Thailand. Working together with other FSC members is what makes this possible. We’re making progress, one step at a time.

"FSC membership lets me get direct updates, vote on real decisions at the General Assembly, and share what I learn with our forestry community."

Piyathip’s story is a reminder that real change starts with people pushing for better, even when the road’s uncertain. Her drive shows how FSC membership can fuel action, spark partnerships, and transform not just forests, but whole communities. It’s voices like hers that move sustainable forestry from ideals to everyday reality.
