FSC ANZ is undergoing a quiet transformation as we increase our ability and capacity to influence, connect and grow.

We believe that we have reached a defining moment for the world’s forests, and for our organisation. Global agendas increasingly recognise the role of forests in enabling and maintaining life, and as a major tool to help mitigate global challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and the social and gender injustice and inequity related to both.

Forest products are also extremely important, as they are renewable materials that can contribute to the bio-based and circular economy, which the world must develop to combat global climate crisis.

FSC’s concept of responsible forest stewardship, including protection, conservation, and restoration as well as management for forest products and services, can provide important contributions to solving global climate crises. But FSC cannot tackle these challenges alone. Efforts are needed by many actors in society, and increasingly we need to work in alliances to create incentives that make a holistic approach to forest management attractive.

Our beliefs shape the way we interact, connect and work with one another. They underpin our organisational culture, strategy, and the way we deliver on our purpose.

We believe healthy forests enable healthy communities
We believe in the positive environmental and economic impact of ethically certified timber and non-timber forest products
We believe that only through connection and partnership with community, industry and government will we create sustainable forestry

FSC’s rigorous standards for responsible forest management are what make us the world’s most trusted sustainable forest certification system worldwide. In Australia and New Zealand, FSC’s partnering organisations demonstrate that, by becoming a certificate holder or promotional licence holder, they support a system that has a uniquely balanced approach to the protection of our forests through addressing crucial environmental, social, and economic issues, both locally and globally.

As stewards of the forest, we believe that the FSC certification should be the norm to ensure all forests are managed and maintained for the future generations.

As sustainability becomes a major concern among consumers, we believe that by building awareness and empowering our audience in Australia and New Zealand to make informed choices, we can drive out complacency and promote our mission of Forests for All, Forever. Working closely with our stakeholders, we aim to provide the leadership that is necessary to ensure that FSC certification in Australia and New Zealand continues to be the gold-standard for responsible forest management.

FSC ANZ seeks to achieve a place

  • Where first nations peoples’ rights are respected, and their voices heard
  • Where the habitats of endangered species (and the endangered species themselves) are protected
  • Where pesticides and chemicals are strictly managed and controlled
  • Where workers rights are protected.
  • Where key decisions regarding our policies and standards are determined by all the members who have an equal say and voting rights that determines consensus operates as our first principle; and
  • Where forests are valued as a sustainable resource not only for the timber, they provide but for their broader ecological values.

As a team we endeavour, every day to ensure that our forests remain forever, for all.

Our work this year is focused on:

  • Increasing our influence to scale our impact.
  • Building a connection to our brand that increases community recognition.
  • Enabling innovation that strengthens our existing markets and creates new opportunities. We also look forward to sharing more with the FSC network as we move closer to achieving our goals
